Epic Games
Epic Games announced a new publishing label and series of publishing partnerships which will strive for a âdeveloper-firstâ approach on Thursday via an official announcement on its website.
Epic Games Publishing has already announced partnerships with the developers behind The Last Guardian, Control, and Limbo (gen DESIGN, Remedy Entertainment and Playdead respectively) and plan to announce more partnerships as well as new games in the âcoming months.â
The publishing model strives to change up traditional standards to offer what it claims to be âthe most developer-friendly terms in the industry.â
Epic Games Publishingâs model emphasizes that creators will have full control over their intellectual property, while still having their projects completely funded by Epic, including QA testing, marketing and other costs.
Further, developers will earn at least 50% of all profits after Epic Games Publishing has recouped all costs.
Tim Sweeney, the founder and CEO of Epic, commented on the new initiative.
âWeâre building the publishing model we always wanted for ourselves when we worked with publishers,â Sweeney said.
Hector Sanchez, who was named head of the new publishing model, also commented.
"gen DESIGN, Remedy and Playdead are among the most innovative and talented studios in the industry, with strong visions for their next games,â said Sanchez. âThey will have full creative control, while Epic will provide a solid foundation of project funding and services.â
